The Story & Contact

DAVID LOUIS KLEIN is a new fashion/apparel company started in 2012 using David’s photographic artwork printed on fine silk fabrics.

David grew up in West Los Angeles and moved to San Francisco in 1975 where he studied film, theatre arts and philosophy at San Francisco State University. In his early 20′s he trained to be an actor with a local theatre academy and acted in local plays in the Bay Area.  He then chose to put his artistic career on hold while we raised his family and has had a successful career as a real estate broker in San Francisco and had an avocation as a football referee for fifteen years and as a basketball coach for three years.  He finally returned to artistic activity in 2006 when he enrolled in City College San Francisco where he took classes in photography, art, theatre and textiles.   While occasionally taking on photographic assignments, including shooting portraits of film and sound editors at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, David remained primarily focused on creating fine art photographic images and portraiture.  His work had been shown in cafes around San Francisco and his photos of lights at night transformed into the letters of the alphabet is now featured on the website www.turningart.com.

In 2009 David attended a fashion show to take portraits and was inspired by the fine artists Dmitri Stroganoff and Devora Geday who had printed their artwork on fabric and had the fabrics made into dresses.  In December of 2011 David printed his images on fabrics and had these first prints made into clubwear dresses by a young designer.  The positive resonse to these first dresses lead to the launching of the company David Louis Klein to work in collaboration with Designers, beginning with Indu Arora, to produce fine fashions and apparel.  Together we have created our first collecton of women’s dresses that are elegant and artistic for Winter 2012/13 with fine silk fabrics printed and the dresses constructed by master craftsmen in India and China.

Also, David began acting again in 2007 with a few roles in student films and he  took a film acting class with www.firsttake.org.  In 2010 he returned to stage acting and in 2011 he enrolled in an acting workshop with Robert Weinapple and has recently acted in numerous student and independent films.  He is currently represented by Boom! Models and Talents and plans to continue acting in local media/theatre and soon audition for roles for film and TV in his hometown.

David strives to create ever more beautiful photographic images for fashion and apparel and continues to appear in local theatre and film projects.  Along with continuing to shoot digital and film photos and print his black and white images in the dark room and edit the images in photoshop, David will soon be working in an art studio, projecting his images onto canvas and painting on the canvas to create paintings of his photography with the hope that along with marketing his imagery on apparel, his images will find a place in the marketplace as fine art.

When I was a little boy driving home at night to West LA from my grandparents house in Hollywood we would pass by a large fountain in the park at the intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards. It would be all lit up with different colored rotating lights and as we approached the fountain we used to try and guess what color it would be lit up when we would be passing by.

Often times, when I would be riding in the car with my Mom or Dad driving at night, I would squint my eyes to make them water a bit and all the car and street lights would seem like brilliant stars that would bounce up and down as we would drive along.  So it was from a very young age that I have enjoyed the beauty of tl;ights at night – - the stars, the moon and our man made lights.  And with this enjoyment  of making the stars bounce up and down as I drive along…..I have created so much of my photographic artwork that I want to share with you now.
